The report above explores the energy capacity of various countries and highlights a few ways to analyze data in Power BI along the way.
The report consists of four pages, with the first three largely showing contrasting views that ultimately help lead to better insights. The first page explores data visualization using raw numbers and demonstrates the shortcomings of analyzing country-level data with raw numbers. The second page approaches the same analysis with a percentage contribution, placing the focus on a country's share of various energy sources rather than raw capacity. The third page combines both measures into a single scatterplot. While losing some of the advantages of the data presented in small multiples, the scatterplot shows how some sources with large raw capacities may have small contribution to a country's overall capacity. There are additional key insights available when looking at the data in this format. Finally, the map on the last page shows detailed data by production facility. While in aggregate, the map looks like world population, viewing the map when filtered to individual energy sources shows unique distributions.
