Life Care Centers of America (LCCA) has spent almost half a century as a national leader in skilled nursing care, providing top quality inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. In total, Life Care manages over 250 skilled nursing, assisted living, and independent living facilities and serves 22,000 daily residents across 28 states. 

Due to the massive scale of the large Nursing Home's operations, critical data was decentralized across multiple applications and locations, making it difficult to make timely, well-informed decisions. In order to best serve its residents, Life Care needed to consolidate its data, modernize its analytics processes, and embrace business intelligence.

The Solution

Life Care knew that its future success depended on more than just identifying key performance indicators; it needed a scalable data warehouse to integrate and transform its data, and powerful BI tools to leverage that data. To help achieve these goals, Life Care worked with BlueGranite to:

  • Build a Microsoft Business Intelligence solution that integrates financial, clinical, resident, labor, and human resources data from over 20 different data sources.
  • Deploy a database containing essential KPIs which are updated on an hourly basis.
  • Generate dashboards that give Life Care access to high-level KPIs and more than 10 years of historical data. Users have the ability to dive deeper into the analytics for more granular insights. 

The Results

Life Care’s investment in a company-wide business intelligence platform has transformed its operations and organizational strategy. Leadership’s ability to access and analyze centralized, up-to-date data informs enterprise-wide operational decisions. With its new solution, Life Care now enjoys:

  • Consolidated reporting of clinical, human resources, and financial performance.
  • Real-time census and labor data to keep the organization staffed in accordance with fluctuating resident admissions and discharges.
  • Integration of multiple on-premise and cloud-based data sources to summarize “single version of the truth” data throughout the organization.
  • Companywide rankings to identify abnormalities and bring attention to concerns before they can grow into larger issues, making the organization as proactive as possible.

By implementing a seamless solution, management and staff are able to keep their focus on residents, rather than wasting energy generating reports from multiple applications scattered across many locations.
