Microsoft recently announced the acquisition of mobile business intelligence and data visualization service Datazen.
Datazen allows users to create mobile dashboards from data in Excel and other sources. This acquisition, according to Microsoft, accelerates its Power BI strategy, and will help organizations create a data culture by allowing users to extract data from anywhere on any device.
How Does the Acquisition Impact Microsoft Users?
Datazen’s technology works with several mobile devices including Windows, iOS and Android, as well as Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition. Customers that use version 2008 and up can immediately download Datazen’s software at no cost.“With the pervasive use of mobile devices at work, mobile business intelligence (BI) is at a tipping point. Datazen is a mobile-first company at the forefront of this wave, with enterprise customers around the globe using its technology,” wrote Microsoft’s Partner Director, Cloud + Enterprise at Microsoft Kamal Hathi.
“In particular, SQL Server customers love Datazen, because it is optimized for SQL Server Analysis Services and the overall Microsoft platform, enabling rich, interactive data visualization and KPIs on all major mobile platforms: …This means millions of people around the world will now be able to visualize and interact with data on their mobile devices, using the native mobile apps available at no charge at the respective app stores,” Hathi wrote.
Hathi notes Datazen’s technology and solutions will complement Microsoft’s Power BI and round out its mobile capabilities. The company plans to eventually integrate Datazen’s technology with Power BI “to give our customers another hybrid bridge for their on-premises investment to the cloud.”
